Iteration 35: 29 October - 18 November

Skeletons for confident loading states

This iteration continues to strengthen the Solid Design System’s foundations while making it more adaptable for real-world use. We’ve introduced the new sd-skeleton component to improve perceived loading states, giving users clearer, more consistent previews while content is on its way. In parallel, we’re refining multi‑theming across design and code to support smoother brand and theme switching and have introduced more precise control over sd-range tooltip behavior. In Figma, the floating-label variant now extends to sd-datepicker, helping conserve space in tighter layouts.

Introducing the new sd-skeleton

We’ve introduced the new sd-skeleton component in Storybook and refined its documentation in Figma, including a new template. This component acts as a placeholder preview while content is loading, reducing load-time frustration and giving users a clearer, more consistent indication that data is on its way.

Multi‑Theming: Continuous Tuning and Refinement

We’re continuing to refine our Multi‑Theming capabilities, tuning and adjusting details across both design and code to make brand and theme switching smoother and more reliable. By iterating on dark mode and brand themes and polishing components for greater visual consistency, we’re making multi-brand experiences more robust, predictable, and ready for everyday use.

More Control: sd-range tooltip visibility

The sd-range tooltip behavior has been improved, giving designers and developers more control over how it’s displayed. On the code side, you can now define the tooltip to appear on interaction (default), remain always visible, or be completely hidden, allowing for more flexible and context-appropriate usage. If you were using the “no-tooltip” attribute before, this will be a breaking change. To fix it, replace it with the attribute “tooltip” with the “hidden” value.

Floating Label available for sd-datepicker

The new floating-label variant—designed to conserve vertical space in compact layouts—is now also available for sd-datepicker in Figma and will be added to code in the next iteration, together with the other form components.

What’s Next?

In our next iteration, we’ll bring floating-label variants to all form fields in code, closing the gap with what’s already available in Figma. At the same time, we’ll continue strengthening Multi‑Theming to make theme and brand switching even more robust and reliable, alongside additional development updates that keep the system aligned with our latest design improvements.
