In this iteration, we focused on strengthening the design system’s foundation while expanding its flexibility for both design and development. New component variants and templates provide more options for building interfaces, while conceptual work lays the groundwork for upcoming initiatives like dark mode and theming.
Building on previous research into floating labels, where their usability in form elements was assessed, we agreed to move forward with their integration in upcoming iterations. In addition, a systematic approach for introducing dark mode as the first theme has been defined, ensuring consistent implementation across design and development.
Design components can now be published with keyword descriptions, which improves discoverability and encourages reuse in Figma. The valid state icon has been updated across form elements to ensure a consistent and clear user experience. The steps component has been extended with a horizontal inline variant, offering more layout flexibility. Navigation patterns have been streamlined with a new navigation item template that integrates directly with the header. Finally, teaser media now includes an expand button in its expandable slot, making the interaction more intuitive.
Typography guidance has been expanded with recommendations for maximum text lengths.
